Everything about Simmondley totally explained
Simmondley is a small village in the
Derbyshire town of
Glossop. It hosts two pubs, the Hare and Hounds, and the Jubilee. The Hare and Hounds, or "Hairy Dog" as the locals like to call it, is situated in the south of the village at the top of Simmondley Lane. The pub is a part of the original farming community with the farm house, the barn and now the stables all been converted into houses. The Jubilee is an estate pub built in 1977, in celebration of the
silver jubilee of
Queen Elizabeth II.
There is also a convenience store (whose ownership changes frequently- in recent years it has been privately owned, a 'Spar', an 'Alldays' and is currently a 'Co-Op Welcome' store). There is a post office, a Chinese takeaway, a dentist, a doctor, a legal office, a hair dresser and a primary school with over 300 pupils.
Many large housing projects have recently been completed in Simmondley, including a large housing estate off Valley Road which stretches towards the existing Manchester rail line.
